I am a machine whisperer. As far as I’m concerned, large industrial robots are not just a heap of metal that make noise for example – rather pretty fascinating constructions that are controlled using high-tech equipment. In the course of my vocational training as an industrial mechanic at Volkswagen, I learn about the basics of manual work and naturally also everything about systems control technology and test procedures. This allows me not only to maintain and repair machines, but also even reconstruct, upgrade and program them.

What is the apprenticeship all about?
As an industrial mechanic, you work independently under your own responsibility in the team. You familiarise yourself with the business processes in your field of application and coordinate with upstream and downstream divisions. Your tasks include organising and managing production and manufacturing processes and producing components and assemblies, including their assembly into technical systems. You communicate with internal and external customers as the situation dictates. In addition, you upgrade machines and systems, perform maintenance and inspections, identify and resolve system errors – or select necessary test procedures and test equipment. What else can you expect? Verification and upgrading of electronic components in the area of control technology and handover of technical systems and products to our customers, with expert instruction where necessary. In all of your work, you have to make sure to observe our quality management systems.
