Data Privacy Policy: volkswagen-karriere.de

A. Party Responsible

We are delighted that you have chosen to visit a website operated by Volkswagen AG, Berliner Ring 2, 38440 Wolfsburg, Germany, e-mail: einstieg@volkswagen.de , listed in the Commercial Register at Braunschweig District Court under the number HRB 100484 ("Volkswagen AG"). We would like to inform you about how your data is collected, processed and used in the section below.

B. General Information, Protocol Data

You are in general able to visit the websites of Volkswagen AG without telling us who you are. We will in this case receive only the following protocol data:

  • an anonymous cookie ID from which your IP address cannot be deduced,
  • the operating system and browser that you are using and your screen resolution setting,
  • the date and time of your visit,
  • which of our websites you visited, and
  • the website you were on just before you visited us.

Unless otherwise specified in the following, your data is processed solely by Volkswagen AG.

C. Collection, Processing and Use of Your Personal Data

Your personal data includes information like your name, your postal address, your telephone number or your e-mail address. Personal data shall be collected, processed and/or used only if you transmit it to us willingly, for example for the purposes of initiating, specifying the content of or amending a contractual relationship between yourself and us, or registering for personalised services or if you send us a request via the website. Furthermore, your personal data shall only be used if you have consented to such use in advance, e.g. for the receipt of advertising and market research information.

Disclosure of data
We only distribute personal data to third parties insofar as this is necessary, especially with respect to processing contracts. This is, for example, the case if you search for a dealership using Google Maps from Google Inc. (“Google”) and the dealership is then shown to you on the map.
More information on data processing at Google can be found at the following link:

I. Contact form and hotline

We have a career contact centre for your questions about starting your career, applying for jobs, and available positions. You can reach us by using our online form or calling our hotline (+49 5361 9-36363). Outside of business hours, you can also leave a message on the hotline’s answering machine. We will then contact you on the phone number you used or by any alternative contact option you provide.

We ask you, when using this hotline, only to disclose the data required to answer your questions about starting at Volkswagen. Particularly sensitive data (this includes: racial or ethical background, political views, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade union membership, statements about their health or sexual orientation etc.) will not be required and may not be passed on.

We will only use the information you provided on the form or on the phone (email address, telephone number in case you call, name optional) for the purpose of processing your enquiry. If necessary, we will transfer your information to the appropriate departments at Volkswagen to enable full resolution of your enquiry. The contract data processor is Volkswagen Group Services.

Saved data will be automatically deleted within 61 days.

II. Online application and Job Portal

Purpose and use of processing your personal data
We process and use your personal data in our online application system only for the purposes required to ensure that the application process runs efficiently and correctly. The same applies to additional data received in the course of the application process, e.g. data obtained from queries and subsequently submitted documents. As part of the online application process, data is requested that is required for online applications. The corresponding fields are marked as “mandatory fields”. Further information can be entered voluntarily in “optional fields”.

Relevant personal data includes:

  • Core data (e.g. name, title, academic title, gender, place and date of birth, nationality, private contact details, marital status, photos, language skills etc.).
  • Job application data (e.g. covering letter and CV, references, credentials, certificates etc.).
  • Marital status details (marriage, civil partnership, children) that could possibly indicate sexual orientation, provided you have disclosed such details as part of your application.

You are also given the option of approving your applicant profile. This means that your applicant profile can then be considered for jobs matching your applicant profile, regardless of any application you may have submitted. In such a scenario, we would contact you without obligation.

If you do not wish this to happen, you can independently block your applicant profile at any time, with effect for the future. This can be done by clicking the corresponding button (removing the checkmark).

Your registration data (first name, last name, user name, e-mail address and password) is then collected so that we can send you the necessary access data for our careers portal. If you create an individual applicant profile after successfully registering, your registration data will be automatically copied over into your applicant profile, with the exception of your user name and password. You no longer have to enter this data separately. In this respect, your registration data will be treated as application data when it is further processed.

Your data is sent in encrypted format using a suitable system.

On what legal basis do we process your data?
We process your data primarily to enable us to conduct the job application process and to decide whether to offer you employment or not based on § 26 Par. 1 Sentence 1 of the Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG). If necessary, we process your personal data to enable us to assess your employability on the basis of § 22 Par. 1 No. 1 lit. c) BDSG.

Review of your Data by our employees
Your application will not be machine-reviewed either as part of the screening process or as part of the subsequent selection process. The application will be read and reviewed by employees in the Human Resources department and by employees in the specialist department of our company that you are applying to. This also applies to when an advised vacancy matches an existing applicant profile, provided you have created and approved such a profile in our system. All of the people involved in processing the application are separately required to maintain confidentiality and will treat your data as strictly confidential. Volkswagen AG reserves the right to employ service providers to undertake so-called "contract data processing" to enable it to properly operate its online application system.

Third-party order processing
The Volkswagen career portal (job portal and online application tool) is provided by Volkswagen Group subsidiary company Audi AG, (Auto-Union-Straße 1, 85045 Ingolstadt, Germany; www.audi.com). Your data is accordingly processed by Audi AG.

The Volkswagen Group Services GmbH can be commissioned by us for data processing. Your data is accordingly processed by Volkswagen Group Services GmbH.

No passing of data
Applications are only reviewed for jobs within Volkswagen AG in Germany. If you are interested in vacancies outside Volkswagen AG, but within the Volkswagen Group, you are requested to apply to the relevant company. Your data will only be passed on to other Group companies outside Volkswagen AG with your express consent.

Deletion of data
Once the application process, for the purposes of which we have received your data, has been completed, your data will be automatically deleted from our system after a period of 180 days. Your applicant profile will be automatically deleted if you have not logged in to your profile for more than 180 days. You will receive an automated notification e-mail to this effect 30 days before expiry of this deadline.

Automatic deletion will not take effect if

  • you log in to your profile within this 180-day period,
  • you are involved in an ongoing application process.

The automatic deletion deadline will be extended by 24 months if

  • you have been assigned to a Talent Group,
  • you have approved your applicant profile.

In the case of applications for an apprenticeship or the dual-study programme (Volkswagen dual), your data will be deleted by 1 September of the following year, based on the selection process.

Furthermore you can update or delete your data/your applicant profile in/from the system by yourself at any time.

You can withdraw your application at any time and/or deselect your approval. These options are included within the application process.

In addition, you can delete your external profile at any time or ask us to do so.

III. Targeting

Targeted advertising (Targeting)
Volkswagen AG produces browser-related user profiles for the purposes of targeting content and advertising (in accordance with § 15 Par. 3 of the German Teleservices Act). Browser-related means in this case that it is not possible to identify you as a physical person and that only your browser can be recognised due to the use of identifiers in cookies. Cookies are small files containing configuration information and are saved on your computer. The cookie tracks information about your activities on the website in question (for example, your browsing habits, which pages you visit, which ad banners you click on, etc.). In principle, content is stored in pseudonymised form. That means potential identifying features are replaced with an indicator in order to make it considerably more difficult or impossible to identify the person concerned.

The profile information contains a limited amount of business-related behavioural elements. They enable algorithms to analyse your click behaviour on Volkswagen’s websites in real time and to use forecasts without personal data being disclosed, so that selective, personalised and relevant advertising can be addressed to you and online campaigns can be targeted toward you.

Most web browsers automatically accept cookies by default. You can prevent the creation of a pseudonymised user profile at any time with immediate effect by changing your browser settings so that no cookies, or only certain cookies, are accepted or so that you are notified as soon as cookies are transmitted. This may mean that you cannot use all of the features on our website to their full extent. In addition, you may withdraw your consent to the processing of this data by clicking on the following link:

Please click here to deactivate the pseudonymised data collection.

Please click here to reactivate the pseudonymised data collection.

Please note that withdrawing your consent using a cookie will only work if your browser settings allow the use of cookies. If you delete the cookie, use a different browser or switch device, you will need to withdraw your consent to the pseudonymised data collection once again. Please note that by deleting all of your cookies, you will also delete the aforementioned cookie for collecting pseudonymised user profiles and will need to reinstall it. More information on cookies is available in our Cookie guidelines.

D. Tracking Tools

I. Adobe Analytics

This website uses Adobe services (Analytics and Dynamic Tag Manager) to evaluate user access to this website. Data is processed for the purposes of advertising/promotion, market research or appropriate design of our website (in accordance with § 15 Par. 3 of the German Teleservices Act). The Analytics solution from Adobe enables us to analyse the usage of Volkswagen’s web offerings and to continuously improve them on the basis of that. The elements analysed include websites or services visited, page dwell time, click paths – i.e. usage patterns that can be technically tracked. This usage helps us understand what pages, topics, products or content are important for our visitors, without personal data being recorded.

Dynamic Tag Management from Adobe enables flexible integration and simple management of services (such as Adobe marketing services) so that we as the website operator can improve interaction with prospective customers. A tag is a website code element in the programming language JavaScript. To be used, the code element must be embedded on every desired html page so it can be activated when a website is called. Adobe Dynamic Tag Management controls tag embedding centrally and enables controlling of what services are integrated where and the collection of data or activation of services.

For the purposes of evaluation with Adobe services, cookies are stored on your device to collect information, which is also stored on the servers of Adobe Systems Software Ireland Limited ("Adobe"). Access to the information by Adobe Systems Incorporated, based in the USA, cannot be ruled out, meaning a relevant EU standard contract (appropriate guarantees relating to data processing in non-European countries) has therefore been concluded. As part of information arrangements you have a right to be informed about this standard contract.

You may withdraw your consent to data collection and processing at any time, effective going forward, or by clicking on the "Opt out" button at http://www.adobe.com/privacy/opt-out.html. In addition, you may withdraw your consent to the processing of this data by clicking on the following link:

Please click here to withdraw consent to the evaluation by Adobe Analytics.

Please click here to consent to the evaluation by Adobe Analytics.

Please note that withdrawing your consent using an opt-out cookie will only work if your browser settings allow the use of cookies. If you delete this cookie, use a different browser or switch device, you will need to opt out of the use of Adobe Analytics once again. Please note that by deleting all cookies, you will also delete the aforementioned cookie and will need to reinstall it. More information on cookies is available in our Cookie guidelines.

It is not possible to link the information stored on the Adobe servers directly to a specific person, since Adobe Analytics is used with the "Before Geo-Lookup: Replace visitor's last IP octet with 0" and "Obfuscate IP-Removed" settings selected. The "Before Geo-Lookup: Replace visitor's last IP octet with 0" setting ensures that the IP address is anonymised before this geolocalisation by replacing the final octet of the IP address with zeroes. For the purposes of statistical evaluation, the user's approximate location is added to the tracking package, which still contains the full IP address. Before the tracking package is saved, the IP address is then replaced with an individual, fixed IP address – referred to as a generic IP address – if the "Obfuscate IP-Removed" setting has been configured. This means that the IP address is no longer contained in a data set that is saved.
