Quality Assurance deals with a wide range of tasks. Some 16,000 employees at more than 100 Group sites around the globe support the development of vehicles and components, and look after mass production in the Group’s global production network. Quality Assurance works closely with Development, Procurement, Finance, Production and Sales in this respect.

The management team of the Group’s Quality Assurance division operates out of the Wolfsburg site, from where it strategically controls the QA activities of the Volkswagen Group and the brands. Moreover, various departments operate in Wolfsburg in Group and/or brand roles for quality assurance:

What we do

All parts required for vehicle production must meet the required standard of quality at Volkswagen. Group Quality Assurance Purchased Parts makes sure of this. It qualifies contractors, develops uniform standards, methods and IT systems globally – and ensures that these are implemented in the purchased parts organisations of the Volkswagen Group.

Group Material Technology
As a close partner of Development, Group Material Technology combines our Group Laboratory Management and Technology. The tasks of our Group Laboratory Management include providing support for laboratory sites all over the world in terms of their strategies, processes, tests and standards and assisting in the training of laboratory employees and managers. Our Group Laboratory Technology, on the other hand, controls processes that ensure the quality of materials worldwide.
Central Group Quality Assurance
Our Central Group Quality Assurance provides instruments and methods that the QA employees require on a cross-brand basis for their daily work. The department is responsible for fundamental strategic projects and the quality management system including the required certifications as a manufacturer. Moreover, it promotes the networking of the quality assurance functions in the brands and regions and ensures that the quality of the products is maintained across the logistical processes too.
Quality Assurance Complete Vehicle
Quality Assurance Complete Vehicle assesses vehicles from the first pre-production model through to the end of production under the most varied customer-specific operating conditions. Together with the members of the Board of Management, the department assesses new vehicles during acceptance road tests and approves them for mass production. Our aim is to achieve a fault-free vehicle, system and powertrain start-up in order to avoid complaints and recall situations in the series start-up phase or with model updates.
Quality Assurance Product Safety
Technical Product Controlling
Technical Product Controlling informs the Board of Management regarding the quality situation of the products and approves the exhibition vehicles for large automobile trade fairs. The department performs audits of the powertrains and vehicles of the brands in order to ensure a consistent standard throughout the Group. Its tasks include series production monitoring of new vehicles in relation to exhaust gas, consumption, exterior noise and on-board diagnosis (OBD). The results are reported to the responsible authorities.
Quality Assurance Product Emergence
Quality Assurance Product Emergence is responsible for ensuring the quality of new vehicles and modules along the Product Emergence Process (PEP) and in the model update. Conceptual problems in the field are examined together with our analysis partners and rectified with the contractors and Development. The aim of the department: To bring concepts to the field that are without any complaints or defects in order to reduce damage cases and breakdowns. And naturally to ensure the satisfaction of our customers.
Quality Assurance Vehicles
Quality Assurance Vehicles supports new vehicle launches and process approvals across the plants and assures quality from start-up to approval to mass production. The department also focuses on ongoing optimisation of product and process quality during series production. Master jig and cubing test equipment is used to assess the overall aesthetics, panel gap, look & feel, functionality and ease of assembly for the exterior and interior of a vehicle.
Quality Assurance Components
Quality Assurance Components (GQH) knows that Volkswagen is more than the sum of its parts. The department controls the global component sites and manages quality projects for components such as engines, gearbox, seats, running gear or plastic components. It also issues the relevant quality approvals for new products and implements quality strategies and programmes in collaboration with the sites..
