Online application: Special data privacy and terms and conditions of use.

These special terms and conditions of use and data privacy information supplement the general terms and conditions of use and data privacy statement of the Volkswagen career website. You accept the terms and conditions of use by applying the designated electronic check mark when signing on to the online application process. Only then can you launch your online application.

Data privacy for online application.

1. Purpose and use of processing your personal data.

We process and use your personal data in our online application system only for the purposes required to ensure that the application process runs efficiently and correctly. The same applies to additional data received in the course of the application process, e.g. data obtained from queries and subsequently submitted documents. As part of the online application process, data is requested that is required for online applications. The corresponding fields are marked as “mandatory fields”. Further information can be entered voluntarily in “optional fields”.

Relevant personal data includes:

  • Core data (e.g. name, title, academic title, gender, place and date of birth, nationality, private contact details, marital status, photos, language skills etc.).
  • Job application data (e.g. covering letter and CV, references, credentials, certificates etc.).
  • Marital status details (marriage, civil partnership, children) that could possibly indicate sexual orientation, provided you have disclosed such details as part of your application.

You are also given the option of approving your applicant profile. This means that your applicant profile can then be considered for jobs matching your applicant profile, regardless of any application you may have submitted. In such a scenario, we would contact you without obligation.

If you do not wish this to happen, you can independently block your applicant profile at any time, with effect for the future. This can be done by clicking the corresponding button (removing the checkmark).

Your registration data (first name, last name, user name, e-mail address and password) is then collected so that we can send you the necessary access data for our careers portal. If you create an individual applicant profile after successfully registering, your registration data will be automatically copied over into your applicant profile, with the exception of your user name and password. You no longer have to enter this data separately. In this respect, your registration data will be treated as application data when it is further processed.

Your data is sent in encrypted format using a suitable system.

2. Contact form and hotline.

On this website we provide a contact form for your questions and notes to us. In order to use this contact form you need to fill the input fields Category, Site (Volkswagen), First name, Last name, Email and your Message. We will only use your personal data to answer your question or note.

3. On what legal basis do we process your data?

We process your data primarily to enable us to conduct the job application process and to decide whether to offer you employment or not based on § 26 Par. 1 Sentence 1 of the Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG). If necessary, we process your personal data to enable us to assess your employability on the basis of § 22 Par. 1 No. 1 lit. c) BDSG.

4. Review of your data by our employees.

Your application will not be machine-reviewed either as part of the screening process or as part of the subsequent selection process. The application will be read and reviewed by employees in the Human Resources department and by employees/managers in the specialist department of our company that you are applying to. This also applies to when an advised vacancy matches an existing applicant profile, provided you have created such a profile in our system. All of the people involved in processing the application are separately required to maintain confidentiality and will treat your data as strictly confidential. Your data is stored on servers in Germany. Volkswagen reserves the right to employ service providers to undertake so-called "contract data processing" to enable it to properly operate its careers portal.

5. Third-party order processing.

The Volkswagen career portal (job portal and online application tool) is provided by Volkswagen Group subsidiary company Audi AG, (Auto-Union-Straße 1, 85045 Ingolstadt, Germany; www.audi.com). Your data is accordingly processed by Audi AG.

The Volkswagen Group Services GmbH can be commissioned by us for data processing. Your data is accordingly processed by Volkswagen Group Services GmbH.

6. No passing of data.

Applications are only reviewed for jobs within Volkswagen AG in Germany. If you are interested in vacancies outside Volkswagen AG, but within the Volkswagen Group, you are requested to apply to the relevant company. Your data will only be passed on to other Group companies outside Volkswagen AG with your express consent.

7. Deletion of data.

Once the application process, for the purposes of which we have received your data, has been completed, your data will be automatically deleted from our system after a period of 180 days. Your applicant profile will be automatically deleted if you have not logged in to your profile for more than 180 days. You will receive an automated notification e-mail to this effect 30 days before expiry of this deadline.

Automatic deletion will not take effect if

  • you log in to your profile within this 180-day period,
  • you are involved in an ongoing application process.

The automatic deletion deadline will be extended by 24 months if

  • you have been assigned to a Talent Group,
  • you have approved your applicant profile.

In the case of applications for an apprenticeship or the dual-study programme (Volkswagen dual), your data will be deleted by 1 September of the following year, based on the selection process.

Furthermore you can update or delete your data/your applicant profile in/from the system by yourself at any time.

You can withdraw your application at any time and/or deselect your approval. These options are included within the application process.

In addition, you can delete your external profile at any time or ask us to do so.

8. Your rights

You can exercise your rights, as listed below, against Volkswagen AG free of charge at any time. You can obtain further information about exercising your rights at the following website: https://datenschutz.volkswagen.de.
Right to information: you have the right to receive information from us about how your personal data is processed.

Right of correction: you have the right to require us to correct any personal data relating to you that is incorrect or incomplete.

Right of deletion: you have the right to request the deletion of your data, provided the preconditions stated in Art. 17 GDPR have been met. According to that, you can, for example, require your data to be deleted if it is no longer required for the purposes for which it was collected. Furthermore you can request deletion if we process your data on the basis of your consent and you withdraw this consent.

Right of data processing restriction: you have the right to request a restriction be put on processing your data, provided the preconditions stated in Art. 18 GDPR have been met. This is, for example, the case if you dispute the accuracy of your data. You can then request that a restriction be put on processing your data while this data is being checked for accuracy.

Right of objection: you have the right to object to the processing of your data if processing is based on an overriding interest or your data is used for direct advertising purposes. An objection is permitted if data is processed either in the public interest or in the exercise of public authority or based on a legitimate interest of Volkswagen AG or a third party. If you do object, we request you to state your reasons for objecting to the processing of your data. You additionally have the right to object to data processing for the purposes of direct advertising. That also applies to profiling, insofar as this is linked to direct advertising.

Right of data transferability: you have the right to receive your data in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format and transfer this data to another data processor, provided that data processing is based on consent or contract fulfilment and that automated processing methods are used.

Right of withdrawal: provided data processing is based on you providing consent, you have the right to withdraw that consent to the processing of your personal data free of charge at any time, effective going forward.

Right of complaint: you also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority (e.g. the Lower Saxony State Commissioner for Data Protection) about how we process your data.

Your responsibility as a user.

You guarantee and contend that you are a genuine job applicant and that you will not use the system for any other purpose. It is your responsibility to ensure that your use of the system fulfils these conditions. You may not use the system or parts thereof to

  • perform activities that are or could be directly or indirectly illegal, harmful, threatening, harassing, disingenuous, defamatory, vulgar or obscene, invasive of the privacy of others, offensive, heinous or racist, sexually, ethnically or otherwise abusive;
  • perform activities that violate or could violate the rights of third parties;
  • convey contents to third parties to which you have no rights so as not to enter information in the system that is intentionally irrelevant, misleading or incorrect;
  • wilfully perform activities that deliberately cause system malfunctions.

Moreover, you undertake not to

  • impersonate another person or other legal entity;
  • wilfully provide false information in the online application that is transferred via the system;
  • post or supply contents or information that contain viruses, worms, Trojan horses or erroneous data;
  • intercept, illegally infiltrate, deceive or falsify, damage the system, hack or decrypt passwords.

In case of wilful/deliberate violation, we reserve the right to take the necessary legal steps and exclude you from further use of the system.


You may choose your password freely, though it must not contain conspicuous repetitions of the same character or comprise generally known words and names. You shall keep your password secret so as to avoid potential misuse. As soon as you have reason to believe that unauthorised third parties have gained knowledge of your password, you must change it immediately. If the password is used by third parties to access the service, you bear the same obligations as when you use the service yourself. This obligation shall not apply to the extent, to which you were not responsible for the third party use.

Applying as a minor.

Persons who have not yet reached the age of 18 require the consent of their legal guardian. In this case, please use the declaration of consent provided by us as part of the online application process.

Information for applying for a vocational training position.

Applicants for vocational training positions at Volkswagen should note the following: In addition to the fully completed online application form, we require your three most recent school certificates as well as your CV, which you should include as an attachment. You can likewise upload additional information to supplement your profile in file form.
